Fred Clark: Says Gov. Scott Walker "made more than $70 million in cuts to job training programs through (Wisconsin’s) technical colleges."
In the wake of six straight months of job losses, Republican Gov. Scott Walker put a priority on training workers to fill existing jobs in his Jan. 25, 2012, state of the state speech. Two weeks earlier, Walker had announced a new council to brainstorm ways to get students better prepared for jobs. Not surprisingly, Democrats weren’t buying what Walker was selling. In the weekly Democratic Party radio address released Feb. 1, 2012, state Rep. Fred Clark of Baraboo pointed to the lackluster jobs numbers and criticized ...

The day before President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address, House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan took shots at him and other Democrats over federal budget matters. In a Jan. 23, 2012 news release, the Wisconsin Republican repeated one of his favorite complaints. "Tomorrow marks the 1,000th day Senate Democrats have gone without any budget at all," he said. Obama said: "We can’t bring every job back that’s left our shore. But right now, it’s getting more expensive to do business in places like China. Meanwhile, America is more productive." He added: "A few weeks ago, the CEO of Master Lock told me that ...

Would a proposed iron ore mine in Wisconsin be nearly the size of one of the nation’s largest inland lakes? About an hour into an 11-hour legislative hearing on Jan. 11, 2012, state Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber, D-Appleton, worried aloud about environmental damage such an operation might cause. The second-term Assembly member compared the mine to Lake Winnebago, the largest of Wisconsin’s 15,000 inland lakes and one of the largest freshwater inland lakes in the U.S. "That's a very large lake that's right ...
